Trigger Point Release

Trigger Point Release is the application of sustained pressure or stimuli on a palpable, taught point or band of muscle that is often painful when compressed and can refer discomfort or pain to other remote areas.

A classic example of this, are the trigger points found in the Scalene muscles on the side of the neck, which can refer pain down the arm to the hand, to the front of the chest and between the shoulder blades. Recognition of these remote referral patterns can help identify the actual cause of the pain rather than trying to treat where the pain is being felt.
